Understanding Gum Disease: A Leading Cause of Premature Tooth Loss

At SJ Smith & Associates, we recognize gum disease, also known as periodontitis, as a prevalent issue affecting individuals across various age groups, leading to premature tooth loss.

Periodontitis arises from the accumulation of plaque on the teeth, often stemming from inadequate or irregular oral hygiene practices. Remarkably, the condition is typically painless, making it easy to overlook.

Addressing Gum Disease

Treating gum disease can be straightforward, particularly in its early stages. Maintaining excellent oral hygiene and allowing your gums to return to a healthy state can often resolve mild cases. A comprehensive clean by our dentist or dental hygienist can effectively remove hardened plaque (tartar).

For more advanced cases, comprehensive medical and dental interventions may be necessary. These can include antibiotics, deep cleaning procedures, tooth extraction, or, in severe instances, gum surgery.

Preventing Gum Disease

Preventing gum disease, or addressing it promptly, revolves around the diligent removal of plaque from your teeth every day. Our skilled hygienists not only emphasize the importance of maintaining healthy gums but also provide personalized guidance on sustaining optimal oral health.

Visit SJ Smith & Associates for a proactive approach to gum health, ensuring you safeguard against the risk of premature tooth loss and enjoy a lifetime of confident smiles.

What a wonderful Dentist, so friendly and efficient. Working very long hours and travelling to and from London. My kids and I have just been for our first appointment, fixed a couple of problems in no time, the dental nurse was also fantastic and reassuring. The dentist even took the time to show me how I can help my child look after his teeth whilst he was in the chair. Very happy patients. Thank you

Used this dentist for the first time as a new patient. The dentist I saw was from London, he comes up for 3 days every week. He was just fabulous and sorted a few problems within no time. His assistant was also very good, and extremely friendly, making sure that I was fine throughout the procedure. I did have to wait for a while to be seen as they were very busy, but they apologised, and I understand that after the pandemic they are playing catch up. Not their fault! I would highly recommend this practice.
